A tour to discover the main site of Caserta, the Royal Bourbon palace, and The roman amphitheatre of the celebrated gladiator Spartacus in Capua.

The Royal Palace symbols of Bourbon’s architecture stands in the vast plains of the Caserta area and it's one of the most sumptuous palaces over to be constructed for a King.

In 1751 King Charles of Bourbon with the vast work of reorganization of the kingdom of Naples, commissioned the architect Luigi Vanvitelli to design a palace that could compete with the large residences of European monarchs, particularly with the royal Palace at Versailles.
The great dwelling includes four courtyards and many rooms (1200), chapels, museums and theaters. The park with its prestigious examples of Italian and English gardens, has 120 acres and long avenues, fountains and many buildings to be explored on foot or by carts.

The amphitheatre of Capua is the second biggest in the world behind only to the colosseum in rome built some years after the roman one. It was erected in the time of emperor Augustus (I century B.C.) , restored by Adrian and dedicated by Antoninus Pius.

It was four storeys high and the exterior was formed by 80 Doric Arcades disposed on 4 levels , it could contains more than 60,000 spectators. Its subterranean passages are among the best preserved in the world. It’s famous because in its arena fought SPARTACUS , the rebel gladiator who raised an army of slaves to challenge the mighty Rome in 73 B.C.

We'll visit the Anphitheater, the Museum of Gladiators and the Mitreo.
